Like the sound of old wood? So do I! There’s just something about the way vintage drums sound and feel that can bring the organic aspects of drumming into focus. After playing a variety of kits over the years, I have kept the following in my rotation for a while now:
Gretsch Round Badge Aqua Satin Flame 5.5/12/14/18:

I usually play these with the Gretsch Name Band 6.5×14 WMP Snare as pictured above.

greg,
heard you last night at the morse; fantastic gig, wish you guys played two more sets ’cause you were just getting warmed up!
love the sound of your drums & cymbals; you’ve payed lots of attention to roach & jones et. al. you must be shopping at maxwell’s!
one minor comment — my friend and i both agreed that we would have preferred a crisper sound out of the snare; perhaps a 5″ instead of a 6 1/2. my personal preference would have been a ludwig supraphonic circa 1970; super crisp and responsive to the style, aka morello perhaps.
anyway, loved your playing, we’ll be back.

correction: ludwig supersensitive snare, not supraphonic, e.g.:

Thanks Ed for your thoughts and kind words. I agree that snare is not as crispy as I would like. I am currently shopping around for an alternative. I will be sure to post if I find something! Cheers!
